This book is designed to help adults talk with children about feelings and potentially stressful experiences that can impact wellbeing. ACEs-LA’s goal is to encourage families to more openly discuss emotions, stress, and trauma with themselves and their medical providers.
CARE TEAM: Please share with families with children ages 0-5 who have been screened for ACEs OR with those who you believe would benefit greatly from this book.

Hello! My name is Jamie Ruiz. I completed my B.S. in Public Health at Cal State University Northridge. For the past three years, I have been working towards addressing and preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Toxic Stress in California through multiple statewide initiatives. As an LA County native, born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, I am inspired every day by my community’s resilience and diversity. Creating this book is an extension of my love for the communities and families I serve.
Hi, my name is Andrea Lopez and I am an illustrator and musician from the Northeast San Fernando Valley. As a strong advocate for the arts, I believe that engaging our community through creative initiatives can foster individual growth and collective care. I completed my B.A in Psychology at the University of California Santa Cruz in 2017 and am currently a Program and Social Media Coordinator at Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural, an arts cultural center and bookstore. Through my work and passion for art, I have been fortunate to lead events and projects that encourage our community to explore the world of art and their inner creativity.
