Tanya's Meet the Team:

Nina Thompson

ACEs-LA Data and Project Manager, UCAAN Innovation Lab (iLab) Director and Special Projects Lead
Nina oversees the ACEs Aware-funded ACEs-LA Network of Care, a collaborative effort between LA County stakeholders, DHS, and the state to build community resilience.The ACEs-LA Network of Care team is responsible for the implementation of ACE screening and response at LA County DHS, the largest health system in California. Nina is co-leading the UCAAN iLab, which provides technical assistance to clinics across California; development, testing, and deployment of products created by the iLab and Pilot Projects; and examines the impact of ACE implementation at a large health system. As UCAAN Special Projects Director, Nina works closely with Education & Training, Data, and Comms stakeholders, on training and claims data collection, analysis, and reporting. Nina graduated from UC Berkeley and has more than twenty years of experience in project management, data analytics, grants management, and community engagement.

Hayley Bry

ACEs-LA Community Navigator
Hayley recently completed her Master’s in Global Health Sciences from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), following her prior achievement of a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at the University of Southern California (USC). Her professional journey includes a role as a Research Program Manager at UCLA, where she dedicated herself to various research projects within low-income communities. Furthermore, she served as manager for the Health Leadership and Advocacy Track for Internal Medicine residents at Olive-View UCLA, co-creating a curriculum to equip residents with the skills and knowledge necessary to become leaders and facilitate policy changes to better aid patients. With a strong ambition to pursue a medical career specializing in either psychiatry or pediatrics, Hayley channels her passion towards advocating for mental health, particularly in children impacted by ACEs. Joining this team signifies an exciting opportunity for her to contribute her experience and enthusiasm to this crucial cause.

Denise Graves

ACEs-LA and iLab Administrator
Denise joined the ACEs-LA team in April 2023. Denise earned her B.S. in Political Science with an emphasis on Global Politics at Cal State University Los Angeles. As the administrator, Denise brings her knowledge of having worked both in the corporate setting as a Purchasing Manager and Operations Assistant, and the public sector having worked for the cities of Cerritos and Norwalk in their Parks and Recreation departments. The work done through the ACEs-LA team is near to her heart. She has first-hand experience with resiliency, having a son born premature who had a 9 weeks NICU stay and has since been diagnosed with Autism. This experience led her to pursue a position to work night shifts as a NICU clerk at Denver Health in Colorado. There she gained a better understanding of the administrative side of healthcare.

Tanya Marin-Lopez

ACEs-LA Community Navigator and Clinic Implementation Lead
Tanya earned her B.S. in Public Health at Cal State University Northridge, with a minor in Lactation, and is currently pursuing her MPH at UCLA. Tanya joined ACEs-LA in 2020 to support ACE screening and response implementation across multiple Los Angeles County DHS clinics and is responsible for clinic data reporting and quality improvement, as well as coordinating ACEs-LA’s Lunch and Learn webinars. Tanya is a member of the Spanish Language and Cultural Competence committee and has translated all ACEs-LA materials into Spanish.

 

 

Nikki Morales

ACEs-LA Community Navigator, Network of Care CAB Facilitator, and Pilot Project Coordinator
Nicole “Nikki” Morales has worked within the LA County Department of Health Services for the last 5 years; starting as an intern in Dr. Adam Schickedanz’s Medical Financial Partnership program. As an ACEs-LA Community Navigator, Nikki collaborates with DHS clinical staff and CBO partners to strengthen responses to ACE screening at DHS clinics. She coordinates all activities of the NoC’s CBO Advisory Board (CAB). She is also UCAAN’s UCLA-based Pilot Projects coordinator, responsible for communication and reporting. Nikki earned her B.A. in Anthropology from UCLA in the spring of 2020, with a focus in sociocultural anthropology.

 

 

 

Julie Ruedaflores

ACEs-LA Community Navigator and CBO Engagement Lead
Julie works with Community Based Organizations providing support and training as they enter the ACES-LA Network of Care. Julie spent the past few years working at the Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) where she was instrumental in providing COVID-19 vaccine outreach to the most vulnerable populations in the Pasadena area. Prior to her work at PPHD she has over 18+ years of experience closely working with families and children on the Autism spectrum. She provided direct Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) training, IEP advocacy and other Autism related services to students and families. Julie has also worked on Autism related studies in the San Francisco Bay area funded by the Environmental Investigations Branch of the California Department of Public Heath (EHIB) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Julie earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at California State University Long Beach.

 

 

 

Jamie Ruiz

ACEs-LA Community Navigator and Billing Expert
Jamie earned her B.S. in Public Health at Cal State University Northridge. She is currently pursuing her MPH at UCLA, focusing on Health Policy and Management. Jamie joined ACEs-LA in early 2020 to support ACE screening and response implementation across multiple Los Angeles County DHS clinics. Additionally, Jamie will be providing technical assistance to clinics across California with billing issues related to ACE screen claims. Jamie is also the author of ACEs-LA’s book for children, Thank You for Sharing, a Book about Feelings.

 

 

 

Josh Parsons

ACEs-LA Community Navigator and Data Management and IT Lead
Josh joined the ACEs-LA Network of Care team (NoC) in March 2021 after completing his graduate program at UCLA where he studied healthcare policy and management. With knowledge and experience combining data analysis with program design and implementation, Josh manages ACEs-LA’s SmartSheet project management infrastructure and the ACEs-LA Network of Care’s data dashboard for DHS clinics and community partners. Josh works closely with the NoC’s referral platform partner, One Degree, to monitor and optimize our closed-loop-referral system, and improve user experience. Josh teaches Excel fundamentals at CSUN and lectures on Autism Self-Advocacy at UCLA.
