  • Family Resource Centers Network of CA
    • Website offers info on parent-to-parent support, resources in multiple languages, a newsletter, websites, parent-to-parent groups, sibling support groups and information and referral information for parents and professionals. Most of the services are for ages 0-3 but in some cases for older children as well.   • Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP)
    • Support to unpaid caregivers. Information and linkage to services. Guidance by an attorney in the use of legal resource and services related to caregiver issues. Support services include assessment, case management, counseling, support groups, training, respite care and supplemental services including assistive devices, home adaptations, caregiver emergency cash/aid.

    • Information, education and support for people with developmental disabilities and their families, staff and the community. They have support groups including age, disability and geographic-specific groups, a peer support partner program that offers one-on-one family support from trained and experienced family members (www.lanterman.org/psm), education and training, information on a multitude of disability-related topics.

Home-based parent education and training program, advocacy and outreach projects assisting families and persons with disabilities to make the best use of the agencies and resources in their community.     • Information, support and resources for family caregivers of adults with chronic physical or cognitive conditions such as Alzheimer’s, stroke, Parkinson’s, TBI or other illnesses. Resources available nationally and by state including diagnosis, prognosis, helping maintain the patient’s independence, helping caregivers care for themselves (assessment, consultation, education, training) and support groups.

    • Early intervention including intensive day treatment for children 2-5 with aggression, tantrums, hyperactivity, impulsivity and other behavior issues, infant massage, support services to strengthen the child caregiver bond and a drop in center for one-on-one support and necessities like clothing shoes, hygiene products and diapers and links to other needed services. Outpatient psychiatric services including child parent psychotherapy, trauma-focused CBT, PPP, trauma therapy, crisis oriented recovery, seeking safety.

    • Placement of children and adults with severe physical, learning and behavior challenges in certified family homes to help them develop and overcome behavioral challenges. Referral needed from regional service coordinator. Children in the program usually transfer to Free To Be’s Adult Residential Program. Service area: SanFernando, Antelope Vallep, Santa Clarita, E. Ventura County.
  • Family Caregiver Alliance Online Support Group
    • An un-moderated group for families, partners and other caregivers of adults with brain injury, Alzheimer’s or other chronic debilitating health conditions. The group offers a safe place to discuss the stresses, challenges and rewards of caregiving. Subscribe on the website to become part of the group.

    • Website has information by state, on assistance, services and advocacy for caregivers.
  • Parents Helping Parents: under “support” and see “Calendar” for group times:
    • Parent support groups for parents of children/teens with anxiety and mood disorders, Autism Speaks Series, Special Needs Parenting group, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Parent Support Group, Japanese support group, Parents of Adult Children with Developmental Disabilities Support Group, parents of Neurodiverse College/Career Young Adults Support Group, Paths to Positive Adulting, Parent Support Group, BFF project – fostering friendships among people with Autism or developmental disabilities, and a creativity workshop.
    • NOTE: under eLearning on the website, there are short videos for parents on tons of topics from creating a healthy diet for a child who is a picky-eater, to coping with parenting a child with developmental disabilities.
  • Muscular Dystrophy Association
    • MDA Resource Center: 833-275-6321 or resourcecenter@mdausa.org to reach trained resource specialists, M-F, 8am-5:30pm about help finding caregiving assistance, support groups and respite care (which can include in-home care for up to 24 hours, adult day-group programs outside the home featuring socialization and activities to provide companionship to the care partner and relief/rest to the caregiver.)

  • The LGBT Community Support: Caregiving for our Families and Friends
    • Support group offers a place for lesbian, gay, bi and trans caregivers of adults with chronic health problems to discuss their unique caregiving challenges. Subscribe on the website to become part of the group.
  • In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)
  • Government program to assist adults with disabilities to remain in their homes by helping pay for services such as meal prep, laundry, shopping, personal care, accompaniment to med appointments. Must be disabled, blind or over age 65 and low income, elegible for medi-Cal to qualify. See website for services by county.
  • California Independent Living Centers (CILC): 916-325-1690
    • Network of community-based centers run and controlled by people with disabilities for any adult with a disability. They offer information and referral, peer counseling, care management, independent living skills training, advocacy, benefits counseling, employment readiness training, housing referrals, assistive technology services, legal aid.
